MARNYS® Star Anise Essential Oil is a food-grade oil present in the preparation of all kinds of recipes for pastries, bread, sweets and even vegetables. There is an excellent recipe with pumpkin cream and star anise that can be prepared quickly. This recipe contains pine nuts, red onion, garlic, fresh ginger and chickpeas, and is seasoned with black pepper, olive oil, black salt flakes and allspice berries (see always directions for use).
Illicium verum, Star Anise, belongs to the family Illiciaceae and is an aromatic evergreen tree with purple-red flowers and star-shaped, aniseed-scented fruits. This grows almost exclusively in Southern China and Vietnam. The name of the genus Illicium derives from the Latin Illicere, likely because of its sweet and attractive fragrance.
The fruit (Star Anise) is of importance within traditional Chinese herbology, as well as a commonly used spice, and has been included in the Chinese pharmacopoeia (2010 edition). Star anise was first introduced to Europe in the 17th century and gets its distinctive liquorice flavour from a chemical compound called anethole.
